Valicoff Family | Katy, TX Family Photographer

I feel like I say this all the time, but I truly cherish each of the families that believe in me and allow me to capture their precious memories. It's always nice, too, when you mesh together so well, as I did with this family. We had such an enjoyable time together and captured some fantastic unposed moments. I adore capturing children and the youth and magic that accompany their bright spirits. These two sisters were so, SO sweet with each other, and they made my job so easy. Baby Luna is so precious, and I loved all of the soft, sweet smiles that graced her older sister's face.

My love of photography has been a lifelong one, even if I didn't start doing it seriously until a year or two ago. I've always loved creating graphics and things in photoshop, and my favorite class in high school was the photoshop class I took with a teacher whom also happened to be the assistant softball coach for our high school team. Said teacher also had a side photography business. We stayed in touch throughout the years and I admired her work, often from afar, but also personally after hiring her to shoot my own wedding. She created such beautiful family photos and when I started up, I certainly aspired to be able to create images like her. Recently though, she's decided to close up shop and was kind enough to send a few referrals my way, this kind family being one of them! They worked with her for many years and I hope to see them through many more together here with me!

Jain Family | Katy Houston, TX Family Photographer

I know I mentioned in my last post that this session also holds a special place in my heart, and now let me tell you why. Little Kian was my VERY FIRST NEWBORN SESSION EVER! His parents graciously took a "risk" letting me photograph that very special time for them knowing it was going to be my first time shooting a newborn, and I am FOREVER grateful to them for that, because it allowed me to find my passion for doing newborn sessions! I had a feeling that doing lifestyle newborn sessions would be something I would enjoy, and working with such a wonderful family at the outset really lit the fire in my heart for this.

They lived out in Clear Lake at the time, and I honestly thought I wouldn't ever get to see Kian again, which I often lamented when looking back through that session, because he was so adorable and they were so, so sweet! So imagine my surprise when I get an email in my inbox from Elyza, mentioning they'd moved closer to my side of town and wanted to see if I had availability for a fall session. Um, of course I do, especially for you, I said! And it was SO good to see them again! We had a very enjoyable session, and Kian has grown into such an active little guy! I loved the tender hugs he started handing out towards the end of the session, too - he even gave a couple to me, and my heart melted! Such a precious little angel. Thanks again for letting me capture these moments for you guys!

Katy, TX Lifestyle Family Photographer | {Sarah + Will}

Again, I seem to have fallen into radio silence. So much has been happening since my last post. I was blessed to take on a part-time data entry job for a local company, which I can do from home! Life was pretty dull in that moment when I accepted the position, but then seriously EXPLODED immediately after as my husband surprised me with a kitchen renovation for our 5 year anniversary! And me, being the DIY-er, decided it'd be great if we did it all ourselves! HA! Between working on backsplashes and cabinet refacing, volunteering on community events, events with friends and family, doing shoots, taking care of my almost two-year old and, you know, the general cooking and cleaning and making sure we all stay a live and well - I honestly can barely keep my head on straight these days! And it all just snowballed on one after another, so before I knew it, this is where I was! As exhausting as it is, it's also exciting in a way.

Even more exciting was completing my first maternity shoot with this wonderful couple in a brand new location! I had a feeling Maternity would be one of the areas my heart truly lies, and that turned out to be true. It's such a special, intimate, exhilarating time and I'm so blessed to have been able to capture that for this wonderful family. Little baby Louis is so lucky to be coming into this world surrounded by so much love.

We shot these at Eleanor Tinsley Park in downtown Houston. It was my first time shooting here and we encountered some very unexpected scenarios, from the sprinklers all going off while we were shooting the very first photo below, to a random bicyclist wanting his portrait done as well! We handled them all with much grace! This location is actually very dear to Sarah's heart. She told me how each year her dad would take her to this hill to take a new picture of her. It was important to her that such a precious time be documented right there, where she has been creating special memories with her own family for so many years. To already begin sharing that with her baby is something I'm so honored to have captured. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of history.

Summertime {Sweetness} | Katy, TX Lifestyle Family Photographer

It's summer! And with summer comes everything beautiful in this world - bright, warm sunshine, popsicles, pools, ice cream, bubbles, butterflies, zoo days, splashpads, to name a few. We've been lucky enough to not have any 90 degree days just yet, but that doesn't mean it's not plenty hot and humid outside. Although often sweltering, especially in Houston, there is something magical about summer in Texas. The best memories I have in life are all from various summers spent in Texas. The people, the places, the music, the warmth - every year it all comes flooding back when those high heat days come. I love every second of it. Some people can't stand to be outside in it, but I live for it.

I recently joined a new group full of inspiration for capturing the every day moments in life. With the steaminess we experienced playing outside the other afternoon, I pulled out the kiddie pool and all of our other fun summer toys. After watching Olive play for a bit and having some of the neighborhood kids join in our fun, I was inspired to go grab my camera to capture these very simple yet special moments.

I will admit, I don't always love fully-editing family pictures. I don't know why, but when I'm doing it just for myself, sometimes it can feel tedious. But in looking at these...they were just so beautiful to me, the way she just played paying no attention to anything else around her, just exploring. I enjoyed editing them, and it really served as a reminder to not let my own family's memories get lost along the way; it's worth it, all the effort, to create this art. I truly hope she'll look back on these one day and cherish them.

Cheers to a wonderful summer ahead! I hope you're all out there having fun with your babies. I leave you now with these bonus images (taken weeks ago but, as I said earlier, having edited two sessions back to back, I was in an editing rut when it came to my own little one) :

Katy, TX Lifestyle Family Photographer | Todd 1-Year Shoot {Sneak Peak}

On Sunday, while most moms were probably taking a break from work, I got to truly celebrate the gift of motherhood (in addition to snuggling my own little one, of course) by shooting this little guy's 1-year pictures! He did superb for his shoot, serving up smiles and sweetness that would melt any mother's heart. He is such an easy-going and enjoyable little boy, and I was so overjoyed to capture this special day for him. While it didn't rain (luckily!), I was a bit disappointed at just how overcast the sky was that day. But that's just part of the outdoor photography struggle - gotta work with what nature gives you! And she doesn't always cooperate. However, by happy accident! We stumbled upon a sundial! And while posing him next to the "1," noticed that May (aka, his birth month), lined up PERFECTLY on the ground with the shot! How cool was that? I love exciting moments like these. Hopefully you find him as precious as I do!
