Another extremely-late-to-be-blogged session, but a great one none the less. Sweet Morgan was adorable, and although she was a month old, she slept like a newborn! Her parent’s first treasure. We incorporated some of their own outfits for her that they had and loved, which is something I enjoy in lifestyle sessions - the unique touch that comes with using your own items!

I will never forget the day when an email arrived in my inbox from a mom seeking to book a styled shoot for her sweet little daughter who was soon to turn two! My eyes lit up, and my heart began racing with excitement, because what's the only thing I love shooting more than than 1-3 year old age range? Well...getting to fully style a shoot for ONE special little girl!!! I deeply cherish any opportunity I have to custom tailor a themed shoot for an individual child because not only will they experience feeling like a princess for one afternoon, but they will receive beautiful keepsake art that said child will look back on and cherish in their older years.
After a wonderful phone consultation with Ellie's mom, she let me know that she loved the floral elements in my portfolio, so when I was thinking of what setups I would do for the shoot, building a floral hoop was, of course, the first thing that came to mind, and so I did it! It is so fun to brainstorm, shop for, and construct my own handmade props - having full total creative control over something like that awakens my soul. Any time you book a custom stylized session with me, you have access to a personally curated wardrobe and my current array of unique props, as well as the creation or acquisition of one-of-a-kind items specific to our decided-upon theme and vision. For stylized sessions, I aim to provide at least two different looks or setups at each session to make the most of our hair and makeup, wardrobe, and time together.
For Ellie's session, we used the floral hoop that I built (luckily with the help of a FANTASTIC friend!! Don't know how I would've done it without her), as well as a children's vintage fainting couch I had recently purchased for the studio sessions I will hopefully be adding come next year! Since such young toddlers are limited on the types of poses they can do, I also brought a gorgeous antique gold-trimmed mirror for a third setup. We did two outfit changes as well. The first was a gorgeous neutral Tutu du Monde dress and cape, and the second was a lavender Tutu du Monde dress available in my own client wardrobe (since mom mentioned her room is a lavender color scheme). Little Ellie was (understandably) a little shy at first, but with the help of her fun-loving mom, we were able to pull some dimpled smiles out of her towards the end! I think it all came together so beautifully, and we all had a wonderful time together.
I feel like I say this all the time, but I truly cherish each of the families that believe in me and allow me to capture their precious memories. It's always nice, too, when you mesh together so well, as I did with this family. We had such an enjoyable time together and captured some fantastic unposed moments. I adore capturing children and the youth and magic that accompany their bright spirits. These two sisters were so, SO sweet with each other, and they made my job so easy. Baby Luna is so precious, and I loved all of the soft, sweet smiles that graced her older sister's face.
My love of photography has been a lifelong one, even if I didn't start doing it seriously until a year or two ago. I've always loved creating graphics and things in photoshop, and my favorite class in high school was the photoshop class I took with a teacher whom also happened to be the assistant softball coach for our high school team. Said teacher also had a side photography business. We stayed in touch throughout the years and I admired her work, often from afar, but also personally after hiring her to shoot my own wedding. She created such beautiful family photos and when I started up, I certainly aspired to be able to create images like her. Recently though, she's decided to close up shop and was kind enough to send a few referrals my way, this kind family being one of them! They worked with her for many years and I hope to see them through many more together here with me!
Y'all, this is my first session of the new year!! I started exchanging emails with this sweet family back when little Levi was 6 months old! From there, we scheduled a date not too far off, but wouldn't you know it, Texas weather had other plans in store for us. It's been SUCH a crazy winter! I honestly can't believe how cold it's been. Every time we rescheduled, it seemed to fall on a day where it either became literally FREEZING cold, or it rained, so we didn't manage to get to shoot until FEBRUARY! And even on this day, rain was forecasted! I was confident that it would hold off, though, after seeing the sun come out around lunchtime. But again, just our luck...I walk out the door to get in the car to drive to the shoot, and the sky in the distance is BLACK. I almost died when I saw that...I really couldn't believe it. Luckily, the rain did manage to hold off, and we got some absolutely stunning photos from it all! Personally, I think all the struggle was worth it! ;)
Oh I should also add, this was the same day of the deadly trucker accident that shut I-10 Westbound down all day. AND little Levi was being stingy with the smiles, which Liji said was quite unlike! Sometimes you have those sessions where it just seems like nothing is going right, and the world is against you...but like I said, judging from the below, we rocked it anyway! Happy 8 months, Levi!
This family is another dear to my heart. They are close friends of ours who recently moved to New York City for Samad's job. Zara is from Dallas and when they announced that they were expecting, we were ecstatic! She mentioned she'd be giving birth in Dallas and staying there a while before heading back to NYC. While they were in Dallas, they came to visit some family here in Houston and we were so happy they made some time to come out and see us as well! I was even more honored when she wanted me to do newborn photos for them. I did these in my new, in-home studio! I still have some work to do on it to get it up and running, but I'm super excited to eventually offer studio sessions in the coming new year! I'll also be posting a few model calls as well once my studio is actually ready to go, so be on the lookout for that if you're interested in trading some time for photos! Anyway, back to baby Zakariya, he couldn't be more precious, and I think you can really feel the deep love his parents already have for him through these photos. Welcome to the world, Zak! You're in for an exciting ride.
