Ellie {Stylized} Shoot | Katy, TX Children's Photographer

I will never forget the day when an email arrived in my inbox from a mom seeking to book a styled shoot for her sweet little daughter who was soon to turn two! My eyes lit up, and my heart began racing with excitement, because what's the only thing I love shooting more than than 1-3 year old age range? Well...getting to fully style a shoot for ONE special little girl!!! I deeply cherish any opportunity I have to custom tailor a themed shoot for an individual child because not only will they experience feeling like a princess for one afternoon, but they will receive beautiful keepsake art that said child will look back on and cherish in their older years.

After a wonderful phone consultation with Ellie's mom, she let me know that she loved the floral elements in my portfolio, so when I was thinking of what setups I would do for the shoot, building a floral hoop was, of course, the first thing that came to mind, and so I did it! It is so fun to brainstorm, shop for, and construct my own handmade props - having full total creative control over something like that awakens my soul. Any time you book a custom stylized session with me, you have access to a personally curated wardrobe and my current array of unique props, as well as the creation or acquisition of one-of-a-kind items specific to our decided-upon theme and vision. For stylized sessions, I aim to provide at least two different looks or setups at each session to make the most of our hair and makeup, wardrobe, and time together.

For Ellie's session, we used the floral hoop that I built (luckily with the help of a FANTASTIC friend!! Don't know how I would've done it without her), as well as a children's vintage fainting couch I had recently purchased for the studio sessions I will hopefully be adding come next year! Since such young toddlers are limited on the types of poses they can do, I also brought a gorgeous antique gold-trimmed mirror for a third setup. We did two outfit changes as well. The first was a gorgeous neutral Tutu du Monde dress and cape, and the second was a lavender Tutu du Monde dress available in my own client wardrobe (since mom mentioned her room is a lavender color scheme). Little Ellie was (understandably) a little shy at first, but with the help of her fun-loving mom, we were able to pull some dimpled smiles out of her towards the end! I think it all came together so beautifully, and we all had a wonderful time together.

I feel like I say this all the time, but I truly cherish each of the families that believe in me and allow me to capture their precious memories. It's always nice, too, when you mesh together so well, as I did with this family. We had such an enjoyable time together and captured some fantastic unposed moments. I adore capturing children and the youth and magic that accompany their bright spirits. These two sisters were so, SO sweet with each other, and they made my job so easy. Baby Luna is so precious, and I loved all of the soft, sweet smiles that graced her older sister's face.

My love of photography has been a lifelong one, even if I didn't start doing it seriously until a year or two ago. I've always loved creating graphics and things in photoshop, and my favorite class in high school was the photoshop class I took with a teacher whom also happened to be the assistant softball coach for our high school team. Said teacher also had a side photography business. We stayed in touch throughout the years and I admired her work, often from afar, but also personally after hiring her to shoot my own wedding. She created such beautiful family photos and when I started up, I certainly aspired to be able to create images like her. Recently though, she's decided to close up shop and was kind enough to send a few referrals my way, this kind family being one of them! They worked with her for many years and I hope to see them through many more together here with me!

Melissa {Maternity} | Katy, TX Maternity Photographer

I don't know if I've said this enough before, but I. LOVE. DOING. STYLIZED. SESSIONS.

Styled sessions are perfect for those who truly value photography as an art. When you book a styled session with me, it includes hair and makeup, and personally curated wardrobe with accessories, as well as other details (such as studio rentals if need be, or my time and talent for creating individual props, etc). We meet and discuss either in person or on the phone every little detail possible in order to bring our vision to perfection! I absolutely love getting the chance to be creative and express myself through this artistry, and I love being able to work personally, one-on-one, with a subject. It allows me to keep a great eye for the little details!

After entering this year's Shoot and Share contest (and having 21 photos place in the top 30% of their categories or better), I learned quickly from voting on others' photos that I seemed to be drawn to photos with movement. Even though I can't dance (I mean, I think I would've been a great dancer if I'd trained it, but sadly I never did), I LOVE watching people dance. I've been an avid fan of So You Think You Can Dance since it's conception, and one of the top reasons I love Korean pop music SO much is for all the amazing choreography (yes, you should watch all of those - you will NOT regret it ;D). I would like, seriously give just about anything to be able to dance...lol, but anyway, all of this to say, I've been DYING for a while, and especially more so recently, to complete a dance session, so when I found Melissa, it was as if all the stars had aligned. I mean, not only a dancer, but maternity to boot?! Perfection. My mind immediately started swirling with ideas, and I knew that this studio downtown would be the perfect backdrop for it. However, it was Melissa who was able to use her own beautiful talents to give these photos real life. My own vision was only half of it, really - this session could not have turned out as fantastic as it did without her own skill! And that's another reason I love stylized shoots - it's such a beautiful, collaborative process that results in uniquely personal images that will always be treasured!

I know for myself, I sometimes lose myself in my momhood. Being "mommy" is my #1 job and I am responsible for the care of my kids every day and some days it can be difficult to separate myself from that, or to remember who I am at the end of long, whirlwind, emotional day. However, now Melissa will have these beautiful photos to look back on for years to come, and to share with her children her passions, and to show them who mom was long before she was "MOM!" to them.

And, If you're reading right now, and you think, "Hey, I have talents! I have passions that I want to commemorate!" Then perhaps a custom stylized maternity session might be just what you need, too. Let's get in touch and plan something personal and beautiful together!!

Stunning, isn't she?! Such talent and beauty. It was an honor getting to work with her, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for her sweet growing family!

Johnson Family | Katy, TX Family Photographer

Y'all, this is my first session of the new year!! I started exchanging emails with this sweet family back when little Levi was 6 months old! From there, we scheduled a date not too far off, but wouldn't you know it, Texas weather had other plans in store for us. It's been SUCH a crazy winter! I honestly can't believe how cold it's been. Every time we rescheduled, it seemed to fall on a day where it either became literally FREEZING cold, or it rained, so we didn't manage to get to shoot until FEBRUARY! And even on this day, rain was forecasted! I was confident that it would hold off, though, after seeing the sun come out around lunchtime. But again, just our luck...I walk out the door to get in the car to drive to the shoot, and the sky in the distance is BLACK. I almost died when I saw that...I really couldn't believe it. Luckily, the rain did manage to hold off, and we got some absolutely stunning photos from it all! Personally, I think all the struggle was worth it! ;)

Oh I should also add, this was the same day of the deadly trucker accident that shut I-10 Westbound down all day. AND little Levi was being stingy with the smiles, which Liji said was quite unlike! Sometimes you have those sessions where it just seems like nothing is going right, and the world is against you...but like I said, judging from the below, we rocked it anyway! Happy 8 months, Levi!

Jain Family | Katy Houston, TX Family Photographer

I know I mentioned in my last post that this session also holds a special place in my heart, and now let me tell you why. Little Kian was my VERY FIRST NEWBORN SESSION EVER! His parents graciously took a "risk" letting me photograph that very special time for them knowing it was going to be my first time shooting a newborn, and I am FOREVER grateful to them for that, because it allowed me to find my passion for doing newborn sessions! I had a feeling that doing lifestyle newborn sessions would be something I would enjoy, and working with such a wonderful family at the outset really lit the fire in my heart for this.

They lived out in Clear Lake at the time, and I honestly thought I wouldn't ever get to see Kian again, which I often lamented when looking back through that session, because he was so adorable and they were so, so sweet! So imagine my surprise when I get an email in my inbox from Elyza, mentioning they'd moved closer to my side of town and wanted to see if I had availability for a fall session. Um, of course I do, especially for you, I said! And it was SO good to see them again! We had a very enjoyable session, and Kian has grown into such an active little guy! I loved the tender hugs he started handing out towards the end of the session, too - he even gave a couple to me, and my heart melted! Such a precious little angel. Thanks again for letting me capture these moments for you guys!
