Ellie {Stylized} Shoot | Katy, TX Children's Photographer

I will never forget the day when an email arrived in my inbox from a mom seeking to book a styled shoot for her sweet little daughter who was soon to turn two! My eyes lit up, and my heart began racing with excitement, because what's the only thing I love shooting more than than 1-3 year old age range? Well...getting to fully style a shoot for ONE special little girl!!! I deeply cherish any opportunity I have to custom tailor a themed shoot for an individual child because not only will they experience feeling like a princess for one afternoon, but they will receive beautiful keepsake art that said child will look back on and cherish in their older years.

After a wonderful phone consultation with Ellie's mom, she let me know that she loved the floral elements in my portfolio, so when I was thinking of what setups I would do for the shoot, building a floral hoop was, of course, the first thing that came to mind, and so I did it! It is so fun to brainstorm, shop for, and construct my own handmade props - having full total creative control over something like that awakens my soul. Any time you book a custom stylized session with me, you have access to a personally curated wardrobe and my current array of unique props, as well as the creation or acquisition of one-of-a-kind items specific to our decided-upon theme and vision. For stylized sessions, I aim to provide at least two different looks or setups at each session to make the most of our hair and makeup, wardrobe, and time together.

For Ellie's session, we used the floral hoop that I built (luckily with the help of a FANTASTIC friend!! Don't know how I would've done it without her), as well as a children's vintage fainting couch I had recently purchased for the studio sessions I will hopefully be adding come next year! Since such young toddlers are limited on the types of poses they can do, I also brought a gorgeous antique gold-trimmed mirror for a third setup. We did two outfit changes as well. The first was a gorgeous neutral Tutu du Monde dress and cape, and the second was a lavender Tutu du Monde dress available in my own client wardrobe (since mom mentioned her room is a lavender color scheme). Little Ellie was (understandably) a little shy at first, but with the help of her fun-loving mom, we were able to pull some dimpled smiles out of her towards the end! I think it all came together so beautifully, and we all had a wonderful time together.

Addie and Harry | Katy Houston, TX Child Portrait Photographer

The last time I saw these two, they were only 9 months old. They (largely) sat nice and still for the camera, playing with their toys together in-between smiling sweetly for me and my camera. It was out then, but there was no running or sweating - just the calm of a relaxing summer shoot in the shade. This was, of course, once we managed to get scheduled! I'll never forget how they had managed to get scheduled with an Olive Branch Photography in Indiana, and how kind that photographer was to track me down and get it all sorted out! (thank you again, fellow OBP photog - I owe you!)

Cut to Sunday, exactly one year later from our previous shoot: these two are 18 months old now, and LONG gone were the easy days of babies still pre-walking phase! These two have become such spirited and inquisitive little toddlers, and I am so thrilled I got the chance to see how they've grown and capture these times for their adoring mama. Both Addie and Harry love to run around, exploring EVERY piece of scenery around them, and rarely did they ever stay in the same spot together! I almost feel like it was miraculous that I managed to get even one image of them together, but such is the nature with photographing this age range. Seriously, I think I've found my niche - send me ALL the toddlers!!! Call me crazy, but I LOVE chasing after them, and seeing the awestruck looks on their faces when they discover something new and interesting! We had such a fun time together. I love working with this family and can't wait to see them again soon!

(Also, I apologize if these look soft -  some of them rendered a bit strangely in my collage-making program but I really wanted to get them posted before my own little babies distract me. Rest assured, the full resolutions are nice and crisply sharp!)

Baby {Kyle} Newborn Session | Katy Houston, TX Lifestyle Portrait Photographer

It's amazing how quickly and easily the haze of the "fourth trimester" with a newborn can be forgotten. With Robson baby #2 so close to being here, I found myself particularly awestruck at this sweet family's newborn session! They were my very last clients before starting maternity leave, and their precious baby boy could not have been a more calm and easygoing addition! And yet, it was still amazing to see him and be flooded with reminders of how tiny, wrinkly, sleepy, and especially hungry these tiny treasures are, and how I'm about to have one of my own again! It was an exciting session to shoot, knowing I was so close to being on the other side again!

Really though, this family was the best. Again, I'm so lucky to have been blessed with them as clients - momma was so laid back and go-with-the-flow of it all, and big sister Elena was super energetic and entertaining the whole time! Dad was also a trooper, jumping right in after what I'm sure was a long first day back at work. They were truly such a beautiful family you can't help but fall in love with!

And check this out - I STILL can't get enough of their gorgeous home! Mom is an interior designer and it definitely shows - each room was curated full of beautiful and unique art pieces and furniture! Many pieces come from Pottery Barn Kids and Etsy. Don't you just want to redecorate your entire house now? I know I do...

And yes, that beautiful nature reserve is RIGHT outside their backyard! I definitely found myself considering moving out of Katy for a second just so I, too, could have such a beautiful space in my neighborhood! Sadly though, we love Katy far too much to leave. I'll have to settle for all my other treasured locations! ;)

Todd's {Fall} Photos | Katy, TX Lifestyle Family Photographer

I LOVE shooting Todd (and his family, of course)! He is just so bubbly, easy going, and fun to make laugh. He was SO full of energy for his 18 month shoot but between all the running around, we managed to get some great shots! He has also learned this on-cue posing move that is the BEST thing in the world. You can see some of it below! This was the first of my fall sessions this year and I'm so excited for the rest of them! Nothing beats the magic of the holiday season...

Summertime {Sweetness} | Katy, TX Lifestyle Family Photographer

It's summer! And with summer comes everything beautiful in this world - bright, warm sunshine, popsicles, pools, ice cream, bubbles, butterflies, zoo days, splashpads, to name a few. We've been lucky enough to not have any 90 degree days just yet, but that doesn't mean it's not plenty hot and humid outside. Although often sweltering, especially in Houston, there is something magical about summer in Texas. The best memories I have in life are all from various summers spent in Texas. The people, the places, the music, the warmth - every year it all comes flooding back when those high heat days come. I love every second of it. Some people can't stand to be outside in it, but I live for it.

I recently joined a new group full of inspiration for capturing the every day moments in life. With the steaminess we experienced playing outside the other afternoon, I pulled out the kiddie pool and all of our other fun summer toys. After watching Olive play for a bit and having some of the neighborhood kids join in our fun, I was inspired to go grab my camera to capture these very simple yet special moments.

I will admit, I don't always love fully-editing family pictures. I don't know why, but when I'm doing it just for myself, sometimes it can feel tedious. But in looking at these...they were just so beautiful to me, the way she just played paying no attention to anything else around her, just exploring. I enjoyed editing them, and it really served as a reminder to not let my own family's memories get lost along the way; it's worth it, all the effort, to create this art. I truly hope she'll look back on these one day and cherish them.

Cheers to a wonderful summer ahead! I hope you're all out there having fun with your babies. I leave you now with these bonus images (taken weeks ago but, as I said earlier, having edited two sessions back to back, I was in an editing rut when it came to my own little one) :
