This is another sweet family from the fall. We decided on downtown Richmond for our location, and it was my first time to shoot there, and boy was it busy! I had nooooo idea how many people did their photoshoots there! It is a beautiful area though, so it makes sense, but unfortunately, we had to do more waiting to use certain spots than I would have liked, BUT we made it work! Thanks again Poole family, for being such troopers that day! How adorable are their sweet kids?
It’s me again! And yes, it’s me again, just now posting a session that is 4 months old. I wish I was able to stay more on top of things!!! So thank you for bearing with me. I’ve had my hands full this summer with a 3 and 1 year old, but man…I really thought I’d manage to get on top of it, but nope! After this I’ve got at least two newborn sessions to blog…maybe putting it out there will give me motivation to get it done…lol, I hope, at least.
Anyway, onto this sweet family, who were referred to me by a friend. They are AMAZING. I feel like I say this all the time because I seem to be blessed with fantastic clients but it truly makes a world of difference when you find a photographer that you mesh well with - it always shows in the photos. They are previously from California and they move often so we aimed for a kind of wide-open-spaces vibe with the setting, to commemorate their time here in Texas country! I also really like a mom who knows exactly she what she wants. Together, we collaborated on wardrobe ideas and colors to put together a beautiful spring session for them! Each of her kiddos were SO much fun to be with, and we had a great time. I’m soooo excited to see them again soon for my Limited Edition Christmas Sessions! Also, if you' love this location, please let me know when booking - this is a private location in Richmond that I have exclusive access to! ;)
Also, for those that don’t know, I DO offer print services! I’ll mention this here since they made a print order, and I get asked often what the differences are versus doing it yourself, and Kristina gave me a good example for how to best explain it. So like i said, I like a mom who knows what she likes (or DOESN’T like), and so Kristina knew she wanted to order standout prints (which offer the depth of canvas without the canvas material), and specified why she preferred them over canvas - she didn’t like the texture of the canvas, for one, nor the way the colors rendered on them. As the photographer, I was then able to optimize both the digital file and paper choice for her prints to offer her the best quality possible. With her feedback, I knew I needed to deepen the blacks and up the contrast a little bit, and when she mentioned the texture, I knew exactly which paper I would order the prints on (deep matte, for those wondering - it’s the smoothest paper). Can you order standout prints on your own from a consumer lab online? Yep. Will it look good? Of course! As long as you use a recommended lab, at least. The benefit to me doing it is that I take care of it for you, check it over myself to make sure there’s no problems, deliver it to you, and optimize the image for the type of printing we’re doing so that you get that absolute best print possible on your end, with no work on your part! After our session, just let me know what you’re interested in and I’m always happy to send a quote.
Another session I'm SUPER late to blogging, but that's new there? Summer has been a busy, busy time around here trying to keep my own kiddos entertained each day, while also maintaining the lawn, and the house...life is never ending! Nonetheless, this Katy family photographer keeps on chugging on through it all, because I love being able to capture these precious, nuanced moments that you can't get back once gone. I lament often that I can't capture my own moments for myself and my own children. Well, I CAN, it's just much harder to do it myself. I'm so glad though, for every chance that I get to do it for others!
This family was so so SWEET. I enjoyed every moment with them, and hopefully sweet little Sadie is letting her parents get a little more sleep these days. Her little brother Liam was full of personality, and even though it was Sadie's moment in the spotlight, I was very glad I got some photos of momma reading with her oldest child, since I know firsthand the struggle that comes for little ones with learning to share mommy! Seriously though, there were so many fantastic shots from this session, it was incredibly hard to narrow down. Check out more of the wonderful family below.
I love using items unique to each of my families in their newborn sessions! It makes the photos so much more personal.
This. Family. Was. SO. MUCH. FUN!!! Erin and Jeremy were super chill and laid back people, and ALL of their kids were absolutely adorable, with a wonderful sense of humor!
Little Hope was born a couple of weeks early and poor Erin experienced a few complications afterward. Ironically, I had JUST recently read a very long article on NPR about postpartum pre-eclampsia. The article profiled a neonatal nurse who, after giving birth herself, died of surprise complications due in part of medical negligence and/or ignorance on the part of her care team, because she had postpartum pre-eclampsia and no one had managed to put two and two together until after she died 48 hours later. It was one of those articles that you file the knowledge away in your mind, hoping to not ever need it one day, but is good to know just in case. Thus, imagine my surprise when Erin called me needing to reschedule her session because she was having some of the same complications! Thank GOD she had a good care team who took her postpartum rising blood pressure seriously, and made sure to monitor her closely. Having only recently even learned that such an illness was possible, I was more than accommodating to her - health comes first, for sure! Luckily Erin healed up quickly, and we ended up having an amazing session!
This was another lifestyle newborn session where it was just truly impossible to choose favorites. I also find that the ones I like best and would choose to deliver don't always align with what my families would pick, so I find myself more and more delivering large proofing galleries to let my families choose their images themselves. Sometimes I feel bad asking exhausted new parents to try to pick favorites themselves, but I do like that they end up with the images THEY want rather than the ones I would've picked! And it's always fun to see if it's ones I would've picked or not. For instance, this family chose an image that I ALMOST scrapped completely, but I did see the potential in it given our interactions and conversations during the session. Something was nagging at me to at least put the image in their gallery, and I'm SO glad I did because it was one they loved!
I LOVED this blanket that the mom wanted to incorporate! That's what I enjoy about lifestyle newborn sessions the most - incorporating items that are important to YOU!
It's amazing how quickly and easily the haze of the "fourth trimester" with a newborn can be forgotten. With Robson baby #2 so close to being here, I found myself particularly awestruck at this sweet family's newborn session! They were my very last clients before starting maternity leave, and their precious baby boy could not have been a more calm and easygoing addition! And yet, it was still amazing to see him and be flooded with reminders of how tiny, wrinkly, sleepy, and especially hungry these tiny treasures are, and how I'm about to have one of my own again! It was an exciting session to shoot, knowing I was so close to being on the other side again!
Really though, this family was the best. Again, I'm so lucky to have been blessed with them as clients - momma was so laid back and go-with-the-flow of it all, and big sister Elena was super energetic and entertaining the whole time! Dad was also a trooper, jumping right in after what I'm sure was a long first day back at work. They were truly such a beautiful family you can't help but fall in love with!
And check this out - I STILL can't get enough of their gorgeous home! Mom is an interior designer and it definitely shows - each room was curated full of beautiful and unique art pieces and furniture! Many pieces come from Pottery Barn Kids and Etsy. Don't you just want to redecorate your entire house now? I know I do...
And yes, that beautiful nature reserve is RIGHT outside their backyard! I definitely found myself considering moving out of Katy for a second just so I, too, could have such a beautiful space in my neighborhood! Sadly though, we love Katy far too much to leave. I'll have to settle for all my other treasured locations! ;)
