milestone session

Johnson Family | Katy, TX Family Photographer

Y'all, this is my first session of the new year!! I started exchanging emails with this sweet family back when little Levi was 6 months old! From there, we scheduled a date not too far off, but wouldn't you know it, Texas weather had other plans in store for us. It's been SUCH a crazy winter! I honestly can't believe how cold it's been. Every time we rescheduled, it seemed to fall on a day where it either became literally FREEZING cold, or it rained, so we didn't manage to get to shoot until FEBRUARY! And even on this day, rain was forecasted! I was confident that it would hold off, though, after seeing the sun come out around lunchtime. But again, just our luck...I walk out the door to get in the car to drive to the shoot, and the sky in the distance is BLACK. I almost died when I saw that...I really couldn't believe it. Luckily, the rain did manage to hold off, and we got some absolutely stunning photos from it all! Personally, I think all the struggle was worth it! ;)

Oh I should also add, this was the same day of the deadly trucker accident that shut I-10 Westbound down all day. AND little Levi was being stingy with the smiles, which Liji said was quite unlike! Sometimes you have those sessions where it just seems like nothing is going right, and the world is against you...but like I said, judging from the below, we rocked it anyway! Happy 8 months, Levi!

Oh my goodness you guys, this session and the next one I'm about to blog both have such a special place in my heart!!! You see, I did little Fletcher's newborn photos about a year prior! And I LOVE getting to watch my tiny little clients grow up. I actually drove out to Pearland for this session, because between our newborn session and now, they moved across town! But when she asked me to do their family photos this year/Fletcher's one year photos, there was no way I was going to say no, especially since I had procured the perfect little prop for him.

If you've ever been in my house, then you know pretty much every piece in it has a special meaning behind it or sentimental value in some way. I am the queen of nostalgia and over the years I have carefully curated a museum of beautiful items from different stages of my life, or my parents/grandparents lives, and so I get weak in the heart when parents want to include special items in their sessions, especially if it's a family heirloom. Little Fletcher actually hails from a line of farmers, and just a couple of weeks prior to his session, I had come upon the P E R F E C T little tractor tricycle with wheelbarrow attachment that I knew would make for some stunning little one year photos. I mean, this thing is the real deal - it is metal, and super heavy duty. When Megan saw it, she agreed it was perfect. And then she also pulled out her own box that belonged to her own grandfather from his farming days, with his name still etched on the side, that she wanted to use as well. I hope you enjoy seeing our heartwarming tribute to his heritage below. Happy one year, Fletcher!

Y'all, I can't even believe it...Our very own sweet little Sabrina turned 3 MONTHS OLD last week. I mean seriously, where does the time go?! I still feel like she was just BORN last week. Someone stop the clock, seriously. Before I know it she's going to be a year old! Olive is still struggling with sharing mommy, so we're still working through that, but otherwise, things have been going super well around here! Sabrina sleeps great at night most of the time, and usually takes a few decent naps throughout the day, so I can't complain. I've been super excited to dive back into shooting as well - it's nice to get out and do something for just me occasionally!

Additionally - spoiler alert - we're moving into a new house in a couple of months where I'm planning on having a STUDIO space!!! I'm really looking forward to offering this new session option to all of you, and so to get some practice in beforehand, I decided to do her pictures in literally the only room of our current house that gets any light at all. You would not even believe the incredibly tiny space within which I shot these! I had to move Cinnamon's big cat tower out of the way, and then put Sabrina right in that spot in front of the window. She did so well though, so I got lots of practice in before she eventually became fussy! Now, onto the pictures...
